Hydro-power station Illspitz: 20 m long, single sided wall poured with Mammut 350 and STB 450

Sicherheit bei Wind, Wetter, Eis, Schnee

At Feldkirch in Western Austria, where the river Ill flows into the Rhine, a new water power station with an annual output of 28m kW is being built.  

The water of the river ill is chanelled through the inlet and streamed over the turbines located in the power house. It then flows into the Rhine through the spillway. The weir system comprising three structures is positioned in the river, just above the chute. A tunnel below ground links the access structure on the right hand side with the power house and permits access to the weir system even during high tide.  

Building in all weather conditions 

The site works in three shifts around the clock, even during the very cold winter months. The weir piers are divided into two centre and two edge piers. The 2.50 m wide centre piers had to be poured without any ties in horizontal direction. Pour pressure was managed using push-pull props, column clamps and column brackets. The clamps used to join the wall panels had an added and desired effect of taking up pressure from the concrete pour. The two edge piers, 1.85 m wide, are part of the left and right riverside quay wall and were poured together with the wall.   

20 m single-sided, 8.15 m high

After the foundation slabs in the power house had been largely completed and equipped with DW 26.5 cast-in anchors for the support frame, a wall segment 8.15 m high and over 20 m long could be poured using a sided-assembly with Mammut 350 panels, support frame STB 450 and three STB 150 extensions, supported by heavy-duty braces Triplex and base extensions. In order to save time and keep the tight schedule, the concrete pour began while the setup was being completed. The pier works have been completed.
